About The ISP List

· In order to set up a Dialup network configuration with any provider you will need to know:
1. The name of your Internet Service Provider.
2. Your login ID (also called user name, login name or screen name).
3. Your password
4. Your primary dial-up number
5. Your secondary dial-up number (if applicable)

· Always contact your phone company to verify if the numbers provided by your ISP are a local call. Calling plans in many areas are very confusing, and you may end up paying your telco several hundreds dollars at the end of the month. Dial 0 on your telephone and ask the operator whether the number you are going to use is a local call.

· We hate to remind, but always set your CAPS LOCK off before typing your password. In most cases passwords are case-sensitive.

· While we tried to make this tutorial as complete and straightforward as possible, it is a supplementary information and doesn't constitute professional customer support from your ISP. Keep your ISP's tecsupport phone number / e-mail address handy.

Mac OS 8/9 DUN setup
Step 1.
Click on your Apple menu, go down to Control Panels and choose TCP/IP.

Change the settings to:
· Connect via PPP
· Configure Using PPP Server
· IP Address, Subnet mask and Router address -- will be supplied by server.
· Name server addr. -- Get the DNS IPs from your ISP and type them here.
· Search domains:Put your ISP domain e.g.: mycoolnewisp.com

Step 2.
Close the TCP/IP control panel by clicking in the close box in the upper left corner of the window. When asked if you want to save the changes to your current configuration, choose Save.

Step 3.
Click on your Apple menu, go down to Control Panels and choose Modem.

· Choose the port you have connected the modem to from the Connect via: pop-up menu, and the type of modem you have from the Modem: pop-up menu. If there is no option for the kind of modem you have, try choosing a similar modem from the menu.
· If you don't have touch-tone dialing, choose Pulse.

Step 4.
Close the Modem control panel by clicking on the close box in the upper left corner of the window. When asked if you want to save the changes to your current configuration, choose Save.

Step 5.
Click on your Apple menu, go down to Control Panels and choose PPP. If you do not have PPP, choose Remote Access instead. If you have PPP, you will see a screen like this... (see picture)
...and if you have Remote Access is OS 8.5, it will look like this:

If you have the Remote Access window, click on the small triangle next to the word Setup; the window will then look very similar to the PPP window shown above.

Click on the Options... button at the bottom of the window. You will see a screen...

...like this:
Change the settings at your liking. We recommend to set Redial to 5 times, and time between retries to 3 seconds.
Step 6.
Click on the Connection tab and remove all the checkmarks on this window.
If you have Remote Access, your window will not have the "Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications" option; you will need to click on the Protocol tab to change that setting.

Uncheck "Connect automatically..." and "Connect to a command-line host" and check "Allow error correction..." and "Use TCP header compression".

Click OK when you are finished changing the settings.

Step 7.
Fill in your Username and the telephone number you'd like to use to connect to your ISP. If you don't know what phone number you want to use, consult your ISP. Filling in your Password is optional. If you put a checkmark in the box labeled Save password, your password will be saved so you won't have to type it again after this initial setup procedure is over.

Your PPP/Remote Access window will look something like the picture on the left.

Close the window by clicking on the close box in the upper left corner of the window. When asked if you want to save the changes to your current configuration, choose Save.

Step 8.
To use your new software, just open the PPP or Remote Access Control Panel and click Connect. If you haven't filled in your password, you'll see a window like the one on the left.

Fill in your password and click OK...

The modem will dial, and you should eventually get connected and see the PPP window look something like this.

At that point you can open your favorite browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer etc...).

You're online!
