Your modem (or other device) is not responding for one of the following reasons:
· The external modem is turned off.
· The modem is not securely connected to your computer. Make sure the cable is securely fastened to both the modem and the computer.
· The serial cable does meet the specifications required by Network and Dial-up Connections.
· The modem has experienced a hardware problem. Turn off the modem, wait for 20 seconds, and then restart the modem.

| Redial the connection. If you continue to receive this message, reduce the modem's initial speed and turn off advanced modem features, such as software compression. See To change the maximum modem port speed or To disable software compression. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.Also, you should confirm that the modem is compatible. For the most up-to-date list of supported modems, see the Hardware Compatibility List at the Microsoft Web site (http://www.microsoft.com/). If you are dialing manually, make sure you are connected before you click Done . You are dialing manually if you selected Operated-Assisted Dialing on the Advanced menu in the Network and Dial-up Connections folder. |
